Born in 1871 in Calcutta. During the 1880s he studied under Olinto Gilhardi and Charles Palmer. Pursuing his increasing interest in Japanese painting, he trained under Yokoyama Taikan who tutored him on Japanese brushwork. Tagore taught at the Calcutta Government College of Art between 1905-15, In 1907, Tagore established the Indian School of Oriental Art and founded The Bengal School that was responsible in pioneering the Bengal Revivalist movement.
